About this object
This is a wide field image of the star cluster and nebula IC 1396 taken with a Canon 60Da and 200mm lens during the Stellarvue Dark Sky Party in Likely, CA. This beautiful nebula lies in the constellation Cepheus. Just to the left of the nebula is the famous "Garnet Star", the bright orange star which is one of the most deeply colored stars in the sky. It's one of the largest and most luminous stars known in the Milky Way. Within the nebula is the famous "Elephant Trunk Nebula" which is a long extension of interstellar gas and dust.
