NGC 2264 area in Monoceros
About this object
This is a wide field image of a beautiful area in the constellation Monoceros covering 3.5x2.5 deg of sky. Within this area is the famous Christmas Tree cluster and Cone nebula near the left center of the image. This area is red from emission and contains a bright blue reflection nebula. Off to the right center is a large open cluster of stars known as TR5. Near lower center of the image is a neat nebula called Hubble's Variable Nebula. This entire area has red emission, reflection and dense dark clouds of dust.
